RICHMOND, Va. — A new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Force has been formed, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced.

The AI Task Force was formed under Gov. Youngkin's Executive Order 30. It is comprised of 10 nationally recognized AI experts.

The Task Force will assist policymakers and state agencies by giving advice and sharing input to ensure the safe, responsible use of technology by state government and cost-effective AI solutions.

“When I signed my artificial intelligence executive order, I was very clear that while there are amazing opportunities with AI, there are also inherent risks that we must tackle head-on. I am excited to bring together this extraordinary group of leading experts in the AI space,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “Virginia’s world-class universities, companies, and military bases position it to lead the nation in the development of AI. The AI Task Force will play a critical role in ensuring that Virginia stays at the forefront of this rapidly developing industry."

Input from the AI Task Force will help when policymakers are establishing guidelines and policies for the ethical use of AI to protect Virginians and protect against third-party risks.

“AI promises to enhance the efficiency of state government, provide educators with powerful teaching tools, and enhance the lives of Virginia citizens,” said Office of Regulatory Management Director Reeve Bull. “The AI Task Force will help ensure that Virginia is taking advantage of the extraordinary opportunities associated with the new technology while maintaining sensible guardrails that promote fairness and safety.”

The AI Task Force will meet twice a year. It will give advice and share input with the executive and legislative branches on the Policy of Standards and Education Guidelines issued under Executive Order 30.
