Yorktown man, Williamsburg boy killed in Charles City County crash

40-year-old Shawnell Eley of Yorktown died at the scene. A 9-year-old Williamsburg boy who was a passenger also died at the scene.

CHARLES CITY COUNTY, Va. — A man and a child were both killed, and two other children hurt in a single-vehicle crash, Virginia State Police (VSP) said.

Troopers said the crash happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. on June 15 on John Tyler Memorial Highway (Route 5) in Charles City County.

VSP said a 2005 Acura TSR was driving eastbound when it ran off the road and struck a tree, just east of the intersection of Route 5 and Tomahund Drive.

40-year-old Shawnell Eley of Yorktown died at the scene. A 9-year-old Williamsburg boy who was a passenger also died at the scene.

The other two children were airlifted to VCU Medical Center in Richmond suffering from serious injuries.

VSP said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
