A 23-year-old Onancock man was indicted Monday in Accomack County in connection with the fatal shooting of 13-year-old Breonya Collins last fall.
Nicholas M. White, 23, of Bayside Road, Onancock, was indicted on charges of voluntary manslaughter and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
White allegedly fatally wounded the minor on Oct. 16, 2015 "while engaged in mutual combat," according to the indictment.
Accomack County Sheriff's Office received a report of a gunshot victim at a residence on Keller Pond Road in Keller that morning.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found Collins suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation revealed that an altercation occurred between White and Collins and a gun was discharged during it, resulting in Collins' injuries.
