Body armor donated to Virginia State Police K-9

RICHMOND, Va. (WVEC) — A bullet and stab protective vest has been donated to K-9 officer Gunner, from the Virginia State Police Department.

The vest was donated from a non-profit organization, Vested Interest in K9s. Gunner's vest was sponsored by Margie Bandas of Richmond. The vest will be embroidered with the sentiment: “In honor of Nicholas Castrinos, Richmond VA.”

Gunner will get his vest in about eight to ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is located in Massachusets. Its mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.

Since the non-profit started in 2009, it has donated over 3,200 vests.

The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K-9 is $950.00.
