1945: First rocket is launched from Wallops under NASA's predecessor, The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.
1958: Wallops researchers begin work with the civilian space program as NASA is born.
1961: First payload launched into orbit from NASA
1975: Wallops expands mission to studies of the Earth and oceans.
1982: Wallops is consolidated with the Goddard Space Flight Center in 1982 and becomes NASA's primary facility for suborbital programs.
1998: Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport is built on NASA land for commercial space flight.
2013: Lunar rocket launched from NASA.
Oct. 28: Rocket explodes six seconds after launch.
