AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police (VSP) canceled the AMBER Alert issued Thursday afternoon for the three siblings who were abducted in western Virginia that morning after all three kids were found safe.
They had issued an AMBER Alert at 1:43 p.m. on behalf of the Augusta County Sheriff's Office for the abduction of three children, saying they were believed to be in "extreme danger" after being reportedly abducted from Bobby’s Way Apartment complex in Fishersville, Virginia.
According to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Donald Smith, they received a call around 8:30 a.m. from a parent saying their children had been taken.
The caller said a black four-door vehicle pulled up to a bus stop near the complex and took the three siblings as they waited for their school bus to arrive.
According to VSP, the abduction happened at 7:45 a.m.
The children, identified as 10-year-old Jai’Marcus Lewis, 8-year-old Ja’Miyah Lewis, and 6-year-old Ja’Liyah Lewis, were last seen around 7:40 a.m. when they left for the bus stop.
VSP says Jai'marcus is 5'0", 80 pounds, Ja'miya is 3'6", 70 pounds, and Ja'liyah is 3'0", 40 pounds.
Augusta County Sheriff's Office said the two girls were wearing pink jackets, while Jai’Marcus was wearing a black and dark blue jacket with neon zippers.
VSP said when issuing the alert that the siblings could have been with their biological mother, Shanice Chante Davison, 35, in a "black newer model Nissan Sentra with an unknown tag."
In a 4:39 p.m. update from Sheriff Smith, Davison was declared responsible for taking the children and believed to have intended to take the children back to her home state of Alabama. She is currently wanted for three counts of felony abduction.
Law enforcement also issued a reverse 911 alert to people within a 5-mile radius of Bobby's Way stating that children were last seen at 7:30 a.m.
According to a social media post from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, it was suspected that the children were at some point in East Tennessee.
At 7:15 p.m. Sheriff Smith announced Davison had been taken into custody without incident by the Alabama Highway Patrol and U.S. Marshall Service following a brief pursuit on I-495 in the Birmingham area of Alabama. The Augusta County Sheriff's Office then arrested her on outstanding warrants.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said on Thursday night that there were three adults total in the car when they discovered it, one of them being Davison. They did not identify the other two.
