NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A 14-year-old arrived at Sentara General Hospital for appendicitis-like symptoms on Tuesday morning.

A typical diagnosis, but he had a very unusual journey there.

The US Coast Guard had to medevac the teenager from a cruise ship, about 303 miles east of Ocean City, Maryland.

The captain of the Norwegian Breakaway told Coast Guard watchstanders the teen was suffering from appendicitis-like symptoms.

A Jayhawk helicopter and HC-130J aircraft launched to hoist the boy from the cruise ship and transport him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.

The boy's grandmother also accompanied him on the flight.
