JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. — After officials announced placing her on administrative leave Monday, Lafayette High School’s principal has officially resigned, according to an email from Williamsburg-James City County superintendent, Olwen Herron.
The message was sent to the Lafayette community on Thursday evening, saying Kimberly Hollemon had submitted her resignation as principal of the school. Eileen Cox, spokeswoman for the district, said it is a resignation from the division and Hollemon would not be moving to another position in WJCC.
Reasons for Hollemon’s resignation remain unclear. Cox said the division does not comment on personnel matters.
However, on Monday the district contacted the James City County Police Department to report an employee allegedly using the school-issued credit card for personal purchases, said police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.
The district declined to elaborate on the report. Cox said since the incident is a police investigation, the district cannot provide further information.
Williams also declined to provide the employee’s name because the report is an active investigation, so it remains unclear whether the report has something to do with Hollemon’s resignation.
In the message to families, Herron restated the division’s current math coordinator, Daniel Miani, would be acting principal until a permanent administrator is hired.
“I want to assure you that Dr. Miani and the entire Lafayette High School staff remain focused on what is most important – your children,” Herron said. “They are committed to delivering high-quality instruction and advancing your child’s academic and personal success. Thank you for your support of these efforts and the Ram Family.”
The search for a new principal is set to begin shortly, the message said. Cox added that hopefully it will begin in the next few days.
Hollemon did not immediately respond for comment.
