Portsmouth 'Cash4Life' winner collects $7M prize

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- A Portsmouth man is our area's newest millionaire!

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- A Portsmouth man is our area's newest millionaire!

51-year-old J.B. Sim bought a winning Cash4Life lottery ticket earlier this week, and just collected his prize on Friday!

He bought the ticket at a Quest in Chesapeake. He returned to the convenience store to receive the check from the Virginia Lottery.

Sim says he'll split his winnings with his sister and sister-in-law. Their prize was a choice between $1,000 per day for life or a one-time cash option of $7 million before taxes. The three are splitting the cash option.

They aren’t the only winners. The store received a $50,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

Sim says he's been playing this lottery game every week since it started, but that it was his sister's idea to begin playing the game in the first place.

He learned he had the winning ticket when his brother woke up him to tell him earlier in the week.

"I was happy," he recalls. "Then I went back to sleep. I had to go to work the next morning."

But he won't be going back to work any more. Sim quit his job here, and is now planning to move back to his native Hawaii, so he can surf every day.
