One person seriously injured in four-vehicle crash

The Virginia State Police charged one driver with reckless driving after a four-vehicle crash on Old Williamsburg Road in Yorktown Thursday.

The Virginia State Police are investigating a four-vehicle crash, that included a dump truck, on Old Williamsburg Road, Route 238, and Goosley Road on Thursday, Nov. 29.

YORKTOWN, Va. (WVEC) — One person was seriously injured in a four-vehicle crash on Old Williamsburg Road in Yorktown.

The Virginia State Police are investigated a four-vehicle crash, that included a dump truck, on Old Williamsburg Road, Route 238, and Goosley Road.

After the investigation, police determined that the driver of a 2016 Jeep SUV, Tim L. Ellis, was traveling eastbound on Route 238 when he crossed into the westbound lanes and hit a 2007 Mack dump truck and a 2010 Chrysler Sebring.

After hitting the Sebring, Ellis's Jeep overturned and hit a 2018 Chrysler minivan. When the dump truck was hit, the driver lost control and ran off the road causing it to overturn and spill its fully loaded cargo of sand.

James S. Steven of Saluda, Virginia, the driver of the Sebring, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Ellis of Hayes, Virginia was charged with reckless driving.

The accident happened around 1:21 p.m. Thursday, November 29.

As police tried to reconstruct the accident for their investigation, VDOT closed the eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 238 until 7:52 Thursday night.
