YORK COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) — York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office arrested and charged Alexander Michael Crosby with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the hit-and-run death of cyclist Brian L. Utne.
Deputies arrested Crosby, 25, around 10:18 p.m. Friday, officials said.
Utne was run over and killed Oct. 25 on Lakeside Drive while riding his bicycle home.
Crosby, of Barhamsville, Virginia, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
He was taken to the Henrico Jail East.
Maj. R. G. Montgomery said that he couldn’t be more pleased with the efforts of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division.
Sheriff J.D. “Danny” Diggs said that investigators did excellent work "in the quick arrest of Crosby.
Crosby has a lengthy criminal history, with previous charges in Henrico, Williamsburg, and New Kent. In New Kent, Crosby was found guilty of reckless driving and eluding police in 2013. He spent several days in jail.
Friends said Utne was a leader in the cycling community. Patrick Johnston rode with Utne on many group rides. On November 3rd, Johnston and hundreds more rode in honor of Utne.
“I don't think it could have been a more great experience,” Johnston said. “(Brian) He brought the community together.”
