Williamsburg woman fatally hit by car in Kill Devil Hills, police say

The crash happened on U.S. Highway 158 near Ocean Acres Drive.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — A Williamsburg woman died after being hit by a vehicle in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina early Friday morning, police said.

The crash happened on U.S. Highway 158 near Ocean Acres Drive. The Kill Devil Hills Police Department said officers responded around 1:08 a.m.

Investigators believe that a 2021 Jeep Wrangler was going south on Highway 158 in the outside lane when Ashley Williams, 20, ran out into the road directly in the path, resulting in the crash.

Williams was pronounced dead where the crash happened.

According to the Kill Devil Hills Police Department, speed and alcohol weren't contributing factors in the crash.

"The Kill Devil Hills Police Department extends our condolences to the Williams family," police wrote in a news release. "We thank the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department, Dare County EMS, the Nags Head Police Department, and the Dare County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and telecommunicators for their assistance."

The crash remains under investigation.
