RODANTHE, N.C. — Another house collapsed into the ocean in Rodanthe, North Carolina overnight Thursday and Friday, leading to a temporary beach closure, according to a press release from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore).

The unoccupied house collapsed at 23241 Surf Side Drive during the overnight hours of Nov. 14-15, and the beach in front of Rodanthe was temporarily closed due to hazardous debris.

Officials said response and clean-up operation efforts are limited due to severe weather conditions and the closure of N.C. Highway 12 between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe.

The Seashore is in communication with the owner of the collapsed home and is monitoring two other unoccupied threatened structures at G A Kohler Court and Sea Oats Drive.

Visitors are also urged to avoid the beach and ocean for potentially many miles to the south of Rodanthe.

Since May 2024, six houses have collapsed in Rodanthe, and 11 overall have been reported in the past four years.
