Outer Banks SPCA says it has 12 empty kennels after it was inundated with more than 80 animals

Outer Banks SPCA said it was "flooded with donors, volunteers, and visitors."

MANTEO, N.C. — The Outer Banks SPCA announced it began Saturday with "only 2 empty kennels and 3 hours later we had 12!"

The shelter shared the good news on its Facebook page on Sunday.

Nothing better than an open door post. Our community is simply amazing. Yesterday we started our day with only 2 empty kennels and 3 hours later we had 12! Many of the newly emptied kennels housed...

The shelter took in more than 80 dogs, cats, chickens, turkeys, goats, and geese that were removed from a home on Brinkly Drive in Wanchese on April 23 and 24. Two ponies, a horse, and a pig were also removed.

"Many of the newly emptied kennels housed 2 of the small dogs from the recent impoundment case. We had adopters from all over NC and beyond," the shelter said in the post.

"Several of our long term 'big' dogs also left yesterday, including one very special adoption story we will save for later."

Outer Banks SPCA said it was "flooded with donors, volunteers, and visitors."

Investigators were alerted to the residence following complaints of animal cruelty. The Outer Banks SPCA determined that conditions were "extremely neglected, noxious, and unsafe," which led to the removal of the animals.
