KITTY HAWK, N.C. — Sure, you'll find plenty of shells along the sands of the Outer Banks  that you can take home with you. Two people who were visiting Kitty Hawk found something a little more unique: a fossilized tooth of a great white shark.

Jennette's Pier in Nags Head shared the story and a couple of pictures of the tooth on its Facebook page.

Michael and Sara Cubberley of Roanoke, Va. found the tooth on the sand on June 15. Three senior managers at North Carolina Aquariums verified the shark's fossilized tooth was the real deal. The managers included the overall director, Maylon White, who used to be with the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center in Virginia Beach.
