KITTY HAWK, N.C. — The exterior of Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina was partially scorched when a large dumpster and dumpster chute caught fire Monday afternoon, authorities said.
In a Facebook post, Kitty Hawk Police Department said the blaze ignited on the north side of the hotel at around 1:22 p.m. Several local agencies, including Kitty Hawk Fire Rescue and Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department, responded to the incident.
According to police, the fire "threatened the hotel structure and people inside." A photo of the scene show the outside of some balconies burned and covered in black soot.
Crews were able to put out the fire. There's no word on what sparked it.
