OREGON INLET, N.C — Four people were rescued by the Coast Guard near Oregon Inlet on the Outer Banks on Monday.

Coast Guard Sector North Carolina received a report that four people were aboard a disabled 27-foot long boat at anchor and were taking on water due to rough seas.

The Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet then launched two crews on 47-foot Motor Life Boats, built for the conditions of 8-foot surf. One crew rescued the four people while the other crew towed the vessel.

“Our crews continuously train in a variety of conditions, similar to these, so we are capable of ensuring safe and swift rescues during maritime emergencies,” said Chief Petty Officer Adam Preiser, executive petty officer of Station Oregon Inlet. “We encourage all mariners to implement safe boating practices such as checking the weather before getting underway, verifying your vessel has all required safety gear, as well as having a contingency plan in case of an emergency.”
