RALEIGH, N.C. — A man has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison on Wednesday for gun and drug charges, according to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

On May 22, 29-year-old Charlton Townsend of Lumberton pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and a quantity of cocaine and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to court documents, the Fairmount Police Department (FPD) and the Robeson County Sheriff's Office received multiple complaints about Townsend selling drugs out of his house in February 2022. FPD had a confidential informant make a controlled purchase of fentanyl from Townsend.

On Mar. 2, 2022, officers executed a search warrant on Townsend's home and found a loaded 9mm semiautomatic gun. Officials seized cocaine base(crack), cocaine, fentanyl, a sawed-off shotgun, a stolen .223/.556 AR-style pistol, a .40 caliber semi-automatic firearm and over $6,000 in cash.

Townsend was taken into custody on the same day of the search. He was eventually sentenced to 150 months in prison.
