KILL DEVIL HILLS, NC -- A 17-year-old is charged with taking weapons from vehicles in Kill Devil Hills, NC.
Police say there were more than a dozen incidents of people breaking into cars in the First Flight Village neighborhoods on September 21-22. Two handguns were among the items taken.
One of the guns - a Bryco Arms Jennings J22 - was purchased in a sting from the teenager, according to authorities. Under physical and electronic surveillance, investigators monitored the purchase of the firearm from the suspect by the informant. Once the purchase of the handgun was made, Officer's approached the suspect and took him into custody without incident, officers told 13News Now.com.
The teen is charged with breaking & entering of motor vehicle, larceny of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm. Further charges will be sought through Grand Jury indictments, police stated.
The second weapon - a silver Smith & Wesson .38 special revolver - was recovered after KDH officials got information from the Currituck County Sheriff's Office.
