OCRACOKE, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation has closed NC 12 on Ocracoke between the ferry terminal and the pony pens until further notice, NCDOT announced on the NC12 account on X.
The decision was made out of an abundance of caution on Monday evening due to darkness, ocean overwash, and water on the roadway.
In addition, ferry service between Hatteras and Ocracoke is also suspended.
Rain and gusty winds are forecast throughout Monday evening and most of Tuesday as Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 continues to impact the area.
