NAGS HEAD, N.C. (AP) - The town of Nags Head has scheduled a public hearing on its plans to close a road that's now owned more by the Atlantic Ocean than the town.
The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk, Virginia, reported the public hearing about plans to close Seagull Drive will be held Thursday.
Nags Head has spent thousands of dollars over the last decade on what once was a paved two-lane road about 500 feet long with a row of high-end houses on each side.
But the surf destroyed the asphalt a long time ago. The road now is just a narrow, sandy path.
One homeowner on the west side is protesting the closure. Homeowner Lucas Munn says abandoning the road to the elements will degrade the area.
