Mother, two children killed in North Carolina trailer fire

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, N.C. (WVEC) -- A mother and her two children died in a trailer fire Wednesday night in Northampton County, N.C., officials say.

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, N.C. (WVEC) -- A trailer fire killed a mother and her two children in Northampton County just a few miles south of Murfreesboro.

It happened when a single wide trailer on Route 258, near Pinetops Road, caught fire shortly before midnight. Fire and emergency crews responded to the scene at 11:42 p.m., according to Patrick Jacobs with the Northampton County Sheriff's Office.

A sheriff's deputy arrived to find the mobile home fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire before the home was completely destroyed.

Sarah Vann and her son, 11, and daughter, 2, who lived at the home died in the fire, Jacobs said.

A neighbor told 13News Now the mobile home was owned by Vann's father.

The news was hard for both neighbors and law enforcement because they said it's a small town and many know the family.

The Northampton County Sheriff's Office, along with the Hertford County Sheriff's Office, Murfreesboro Police Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Woodland Volunteer Fire Department, Conway Volunteer Fire Department, Murfreesboro Fire Department, and Northampton County EMS responded to the fire.

The State Bureau of Investigations is continuing to look into the incident.
