BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. — A man in Bertie County was arrested Tuesday for alleged sex crimes with a minor.
The Bertie County Sheriff's Office has taken 40-year-old Letron Sumner into custody after law enforcement received a report from Tyrrell County DSS about inappropriate sex acts with a minor.
After the initial report investigators conducted interviews and then followed up with Tedi Bear Children's Advocacy Center to assist. The center specializes in assessment, treatment, education and prevention for children up to 18 years old who may have been victims of child abuse or neglect.
Investigators also worked closely with District Attorney Kim Gourrier Scott's Office during the investigation.
Together, they found that Sumner performed sex on minors. At the time of the incidents, Sumner and the victims lived in the Lewiston/Woodville area.
He is being charged with three counts of statutory rape of a child less than 15, three counts of incest, two counts of attempted sex act by a parent/custodian and one count of disseminating obscenity to minors.
