ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — A man is dead after a car crash Friday morning in Elizabeth City.
Elizabeth City Police say that around 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle crash near Halstead Boulevard and Rich Boulevard.
When police arrived they found a victim on the side of the roadway unconscious and unresponsive. Elizabeth City Fire Department and Pasquotank-Camden County EMS attempted life-saving measures, but the victim succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead.
The victim and driver in the accident was identified as 35-year-old Rodney Brooks of Bell Street, Elizabeth City.
Brooks was driving a silver 2011 Ford Crown Victoria that was going South on Halstead Boulevard in the far right lane when the car went off the road to the right and struck a pole and several bushes before flipping several times. The vehicle then struck a parked car in the parking lot of a nearby business before coming to a stop.
Brooks was the only person in the car and was ejected from the vehicle. The investigation revealed the time of the crash was early Friday at around 1:40 a.m. Brooks was not discovered until later in the morning.
The incident is still under investigation and the cause of the crash has not been determined.
