MOYOCK, N.C. — The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office is working on a barricade situation in the Moyock Commons Business District area and has announced it is closed to the public.
"We are working an active scene with an armed barricaded subject at the Food Lion area," the Currituck County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook just before 7 p.m. "We have containment and the general public is safe. Please be patient with the traffic control as we have all available manpower on this situation."
The sheriff's office had earlier asked people to stay away from the area and said traffic was being rerouted.
The Moyock Volunteer Fire Department and Currituck County Emergency Management both posted on Facebook that Caratoke Highway is shut down between Sawyertown Road and Tulls Creek Road in Moyock. Traffic on NC 168 is being rerouted, and the public is asked to avoid the area of Lark Drive and Moyock Commons Drive.
