EDENTON, NC (WVEC) -- Right now, officials around the area are trying to assess the damage from this week's rain and floods.

In northeast North Carolina, there are reports of roads washed out, including a large section of Tynch Town Road in Chowan County. Officials say this is a result of about five to 10 inches of rain over the last few days.

Right now Chowan is still in a local state of emergency. Several roads have been completely washed out. People along Tynch Town Road are completely without fresh water right now, because the road washout damaged the water lines.

Emergency management crews are still monitoring the roads, and they want people to be very careful when driving. If you see water on the road, it is best to turn around.
