EDENTON, N.C. — Police in North Carolina are putting out an alert that a potentially deadly batch of suspect fentanyl is circulating in the community.
The Chowan County Sheriff's Office and Edenton Police Department said law enforcement has recently responded to multiple calls of apparent drug overdoses, including four deaths in the past 10 days. Deputies and officers believe fentanyl use or exposure is the culprit.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin, and more than 150 people die every day from overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl. Oftentimes fentanyl is used to lace other drugs and is unknown to the person taking it.
