Families file lawsuit over Pasquotank prison worker deaths

They claim North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and the Department of Corrections could have prevented the attacks with better safety equipment and training.

PASQUOTANK COUNTY, N.C. — Family members of the prison employees who were killed during a failed prison break say they plan to sue.

Four inmates tried to break out of the Pasquotank Correctional Institution in 2017. They reportedly stabbed and killed four workers and injured several others.

Now families of three of the victims are demanding accountability. They claim North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and the Department of Corrections could have prevented the attacks with better safety equipment and training.

A jury has convicted one of the four suspects. The others still await trial.
