Teen injured in overnight shooting in Elizabeth City

A 17-year-old was shot in the hand, while a 19-year-old was injured when he fell down during the shooting.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — A 17-year-old was shot and hurt in Elizabeth City early Tuesday morning.

The Elizabeth City Police Department said officers responded to White Street just after midnight for reports of gunshots. There they found bullet shell casings fired from multiple weapons.

A short time later, police said two people who had been hurt in the shooting showed up at a local hospital. A 17-year-old was shot in the hand, while a 19-year-old man had not been shot, but was injured when he fell to the ground.

Both are expected to be OK.

There's no word yet on if police are searching for a suspect or if any charges are pending.
