Elizabeth City police detain 2 after gun exchange

Police were called after reports of someone pointing a gun on East Ehringhaus Street in Elizabeth City.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — On Friday evening, Elizabeth City police detained two individuals, including a juvenile, after observing them pass a gun from one to the other, authorities say.

Officers were called to the vicinity of East Ehringhaus and South Pool streets at around 6:10 p.m.

Xavier Rashawn Brinkley, 20, was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed gun and selling/giving a handgun to a minor.

Brinkley was taken to the Albemarle District Jail and is being held without bond. He will appear in Pasquotank County District Court on Monday. The juvenile, who has not been publicly released, was also taken into custody but was later released to their parents.

This investigation is ongoing.
