NORTH CAROLINA, USA — An Edenton man has been sentenced to over eight years in prison for child pornography, the Department of Justice said.
The conviction comes after Matterson Xavier Rusyn, 61, was found guilty of possession of child pornography.
According to court documents, Microsoft reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that one of its users uploaded a picture of child pornography into a reverse Bing image search to find similar pictures. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children forwarded it to the Chowan County Sheriff's Office which discovered the IP address used to upload the pictures was connected to Rusyn.
After investigating Rusyn, the Chowan County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant. During the search, Rusyn admitted to collecting child pornography. Officials seized his cell phone, computers and hard drives. The devices were forensically analyzed and found to contain over 3,000 pictures of child pornography.
Rusyn was sentenced to 102 months in prison followed by 120 months of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $107,000 in restitution to 16 known victims.
“The United States Attorney’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations have built a wonderful relationship with Chowan Sheriff’s Office and the Edenton Police Department which has allowed our community and citizens to feel safe in our bedroom community and for that I say thank you,” said Edenton Police Chief Henry King.
