EDENTON, N.C. — A 29-year-old man from Edenton, North Carolina is facing a murder charge in the death of a 19-year-old, the Chowan County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.
Jordan Isaiah Thomas, 29, is already in custody on charges out of Beaufort County for larceny of a motor vehicle and concealing the death of a person, but his murder charge is in Chowan County.
According to the Chowan County Sheriff's Office, the victim is believed to be Amarriah Smith pending positive identification.
The Chowan County Sheriff's Office didn't share details about the incident but said the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office are involved in the investigation.
"Sheriff [Edward] Basnight extends his sympathy to the victim's family and is thankful for the joint effort between many different law enforcement agencies as we continue to work through this investigation together," the Chowan County Sheriff's Office wrote in a news release.
