EDENTON, N.C. — A man was arrested on Thursday for assaulting and strangling a woman in Edenton, police say.

Edenton police say they were called out to the 500 block of Virginia Road for a report of a person screaming for help. Officers arrived on the scene and had to use force to enter the room after both officers heard the victim screaming for help.

After investigation, Edenton police had probable cause to arrest 33-year-old Deshone Hollis of Edenton. He's charged with one count of felony assault by strangulation, one count of assault on a female and one count of crime of domestic violence. He was given no bond with a 48-hour hold.

Hollis is also already on supervised probation, and his probation officers are aware of the incident and will follow protocol.

“I want to thank both Officers for the quick response and making entry to help save the victim,” Police Chief Henry King said in the Facebook post.
