ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WVEC) -- District Attorney Andrew Womble is seeking the death penalty against at least three inmates charged with killing four correctional workers at the Pasquotank Correctional Institution in October.

Two prison employees killed, several injured in NC escape attempt
According to police, the inmates started a fire in the prison's sewing plant around 3 p.m. on Oct. 12 in an attempt to escape.
None of the criminals were able to get past the prison yards.
Many people were injured during the chaos and four correctional employees died, leaving the prison even more understaffed than it already was.
The hearing for the fourth inmate, Jonathan Monk, is expected for 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
All four suspects are charged with:
- 4 counts of first degree murder
- 1 count of attempted murder
- 5 counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
- 1 count of felony riot
- 1 count of burning a building
- 1 count of attempted escape from prison
- 1 count of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon
