Coast Guard rescues 3 mariners caught in heavy weather southeast of Cape Hatteras

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — The United States Coast Guard rescued three mariners caught in heavy weather southeast of Cape Hatteras Thursday.

Around 9:30 a.m., an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew responded to three mariners whose boat was caught in heavy weather and at risk of capsizing 154 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras. When they arrived, the mariners were safely hoisted up by the Jayhawk crew.

Officials said no one was injured.

The heavy weather conditions included 6-10 feet waves and 17-23 mph winds.
