GATES COUNTY, N.C. (WVEC) -- Gates County Emergency Management issued an advisory to water customers Sunday to boil their water or use bottled water.

A water main failure between Gatesville and Sunbury left many people without water.

Public works crews were working to fix the problem, but the advisory has remained in effect as of Tuesday.

Over in Chowan County, officials say a boil water advisory remains in place for Morristown Road and Morris Lane.

The boil water/system pressure advisory for Yellowhammer Road and Chambers Ferry Road has been lifted. Portable water by the Chowan County Water Department has been restored to near capacity.
