CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WVEC) -- The body of a 45-year-old man who was reported missing Saturday after last being seen in Currituck Sound has been found.
The Currituck County Sheriff's Office says Stacey Ronald Twiford, of Moyock, N.C., was heading home to the Tulls Bay area of Moyock from Carova Beach when he went missing.
Officials say Twiford had last been seen by his sister from a different boat around 6:20 p.m. Saturday. He was reportedly not wearing a life jacket.
Twiford's body was recovered Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 11:22 a.m., from the Mackey Island National Wildlife Refuge after Wildlife Sgt. Steve Jarvis located the body in a small cove on Mackey's Island.
Twiford's unmanned boat was discovered by Thomas Meiggs in the Baxter Estates area of Currituck.
