RODANTHE, N.C. — Cape Hatteras National Seashore is monitoring beach homes in Rodanthe as a storm system moves onshore with rain and wind this week.
Public Affairs Specialist Mike Barber confirmed there are a few homes federal officials with the National Park Service are monitoring. These homes specifically are along GA Kohler Court, Barber stated.
Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 came ashore earlier Monday near North Myrtle Beach, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. However, effects such as coastal flooding are spreading up the coast.
Seven beach homes in Rodanthe have fallen into the ocean since 2020, with the most recent one not far away on Corbina Drive collapsing on Aug. 16.
Earlier Monday, Cape Hatteras National Seashore advised travelers to avoid the north end of Ocracoke Island near high tide, which took place around 6:45 p.m., due to a higher-than-average high tide and high surf advisory.
