Newport News police arrest man who choked, stabbed woman

Newport News police arrested a 68-year-old man for choking and stabbing a 52-year-old woman in a car in the 3800 block of Roanoke Avenue.

Lennis McNair, 68, was arrested for abduction, strangulation, and malicious wounding after he choked and stabbed a 52-year-old woman in the 3800 block of Roanoke Avenue according to Newport News police.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) — Newport News police arrested a man for choking and stabbing a woman.

Police responded to a call at 1:24 a.m. on Tuesday November 6 for a stabbing in the 3800 block of Roanoke Avenue.

Officers found a 52-year-old woman bleeding from cuts in her face when they arrived at the scene. She was taken to the hospital for treatment where she told police that 68-year-old Lennis McNair of the 3800 block of Roanoke Avenue choked her and then began to stab her while they were in a car together.

The victim said she knew McNair.

Police were able to obtain warrants for the 68-year-old's arrest for abduction, strangulation, and malicious wounding and arrested McNair Tuesday.
