VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend is back in Virginia Beach for its 52nd year!
Thousands of runners are taking over the Virginia Beach Oceanfront this weekend.
Runners can pick up their packets at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, runners will lace up for the 8K. Also happening are the Leprechaun Dash, and the Operation Smilke Shamrock Final Mile, which are shorter runs for children.
The headlining Half-Marathon and Marathon events are set for Sunday. Post-race celebration parties will be held on the beach beside the finish line.
More details can be found on the Shamrock Marathon's website.
Among the runners coming out to the Shamrock this weekend is Jason Conway, who is lacing up for a good cause: he's running 50 marathons in 50 states!
His goal started as a way to give back to the children's hospital that helped his premature-born child in Pennsylvania. Now he's helping children's hospitals across the U.S.
For Sunday's marathon, Conway is raising money for Ruby Stancill, who was born nearly 15 weeks early at CHKD in Norfolk. Her parents will be cheering him mile-by-mile.
"I believe this is my miracle mission because I'm the happiest in my life when I'm being of service to others," Conway explained.
"To choose Ruby was really special," he mother Heather Stancill said. "And we're honored to be a part of his mission and everything he's running for and raising money for."
After the race, Conway said he'll be excited to meet Ruby and her family in person for the first time.
