Virginia Beach middle school employee accused of drinking at school

A school spokesperson said that 56-year-old Caroline Power was no longer employed at Princess Anne Middle School, effective Friday.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach middle school employee is out of a job for allegedly being intoxicated at school.

Virginia Beach police say 56-year-old Caroline Power was intoxicated during school hours at Princess Anne Middle School on Thursday, Sept. 12,  and was found with alcohol in her possession.

According to police, Power was served two misdemeanor summons the following day for public intoxication and possession of alcohol on school property. A Virginia Beach City Public Schools spokesperson confirmed to 13News Now that Power is no longer an employee at Princess Anne Middle School, effective September 13.

13News Now reached out to people who were students at this school in the past and have sent their children there. Those neighbors said while the citations are surprising, they did not change their opinion of the school.

"This is a shame to happen but you've gotta do what you've gotta do and it doesn't reflect on any of the other teachers, the administration, or the school itself," said Stephanie Rozzell, who graduated from the school. "It's still a good school."

"They do a very good job, you don't hear about too many problems at our schools," said Charles Brewer, whose children attended the school. "I don't think the school had a choice beyond what they had to do."

If Power is convicted she could face up to a $1,250 fine, or a six-month sentence in jail. She is scheduled to appear before a judge on Oct. 28.
