Weather conditions delay recovery efforts at Virginia Beach pier for another day

Virginia Beach police said weather and ocean conditions are once again preventing crews from retrieving the vehicle that went off the pier on Saturday.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A car that drove off the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier four days ago remains 17 feet underwater.

On Wednesday, Virginia Beach police said weather and ocean conditions are once again preventing crews from retrieving the vehicle. That means all evidence about the crash remains submerged in the ocean, so we don't know who's inside or what happened.

The National Weather Service has a Small Craft Advisory that is in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday. A Small Craft Advisory is issued when winds of 18 to 33 knots (21 to 38 mph) are expected.

A family has contacted police about a missing male relative, whose case has many similarities to Saturday's incident at the pier. However, police said it remains unconfirmed if the missing person is associated with the car. Police also said they haven't been able to tell if the submerged vehicle has a license plate attached.
