Over 200K square feet of land involved in Virginia Beach brush fire, officials say

VBFD had to navigate through briars and thick vegetation in the Pungo area on Saturday to focus on hot spots and contain the flames.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A brush fire in Virginia Beach was put out by crews on Saturday, but not before over 6 acres of land became involved in the incident, officials say.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD) was dispatched to a brush fire around 8 a.m. When crews arrived around 8:12 a.m., heavy smoke was seen coming from an area around 2000 feet off of Princess Anne Road.

The winds spread the fire quickly throughout the wooded area. VBFD says over 6 acres were involved.

Crews worked with a drone equipped with an aerial thermal imaging camera to locate the direction the flames were spreading. VBFD had to navigate through briars and thick vegetation in the area to focus on hot spots and contain the fire.

The fire was marked under control at 10:55 a.m. and then completely out at 1:55 p.m.

VBFD says no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was classified as undetermined.
