Virginia Beach holds remembrance event for mass shooting victims

The City of Virginia Beach is honoring the people killed in the municipal center shooting with 'VB Remembers.'

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Following the mass shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center, the city is planning to hold a remembrance event for the victims.

A gunman entered Building 2 and within minutes killed 12 and injured 4.

City official announced they intend to hold a "VB Remembers" event on Thursday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. The event will be at The Rock Church, located at 640 Kempsville Rd. 

The city said it's a nondenominational service, and representatives of multiple faiths will be participating.

According to the Virginia Beach city website, there will be another "official" memorial event announced soon.

  • Alexander Mikhail Gusev: Public Works employee - 9 years, Right-of-Way Agent, Virginia Beach
  • Katherine A. Nixon: Public Utilities employee - 10 years, Engineer, Virginia Beach
  • Richard H. Nettleton: Public Utilities employee - 28 years, Engineer, Norfolk
  • Christopher Kelly  Rapp: Public Works employee - 11 months, Engineer, Powhatan
  • Ryan Keith Cox: Public Utilities employee - 12.5 years, Account Clerk, Virginia Beach
  • Joshua A. Hardy: Public Utilities employee, 4.5 years, Engineering Technician, Virginia Beach
