VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach leaders voted to approve an update to the city code on Tuesday night.
The new ordinance would allow for the "lawful seizure, impounding and disposition" of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-road motorcycles that are operated unlawfully on any "street, highway, sidewalk or other public way within the city."
According to the ordinance presented to the City Council, Virginia Beach has seen a rise in incidents involving ATVs driving through neighborhoods, creating dangers for the health and safety of residents.
Other cities in the area such as Hampton have discussed similar ordinances. Norfolk has also signaled they want to address ways to solve the problem.
