Virginia Beach police respond to 'report of a bomb threat' on Shore Drive

Business owners tell 13News Now the Lynnhaven Beach Square plaza off Shore Drive was evacuated shortly after officers arrived Friday evening.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach police say officers responded to a "report of a bomb threat" Friday evening.

Business owners tell 13News Now the Lynnhaven Beach Square plaza off Shore Drive was evacuated shortly after officers arrived at around 6:30 p.m.

Police have not said if anyone is in custody.

Donald Edwards owns Lynnhaven Coffee Company. He said crime scene tape blocked him from getting to his store.

"Back road was closed off with emergency vehicles. I came around the corner and there was police tape all over," Edwards said. “We had already closed for the day, luckily, and our employees had headed home. But, it was, you know, a little bit of excitement for Shore Drive.”

The manager of another business in the area, who wished to remain anonymous, spoke to 13News Now. She said police gave the “all-clear” to return to the plaza at around 8:30 p.m.

“It was definitely out of the ordinary. We’re hoping things will get back to normal, serve some coffee, and that’s it," Edwards said.

Virginia Beach police haven’t released many details about the reported threat. 13News Now reached out for more details and are waiting to hear back.
