Chesapeake teen charged with murder in connection with Virginia Beach shooting

Police identified 23-year-old Cole Grant of Virginia Beach as the victim in the deadly Oceanfront shooting.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach police arrested a Chesapeake teen in connection with a shooting that left one man dead at the Oceanfront on Wednesday.

The teen is charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, officials said.

The man killed in the shooting, identified as 23-year-old Cole Stuart Grant of Virginia Beach, worked at Croc's 19th Street Bistro, according to a statement released by the restaurant.

The restaurant said it's "mourning one of our own" and is working with the Virginia Beach Police Department.

Police received a call Wednesday at 10:55 p.m. for a shooting at 19th Street and Cypress Avenue.

Police said the shooting started as an argument between two groups of people.

First responders found Grant with a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Michael Green lives behind the restaurant and said nothing like this has happened there before.

“It’s shocking. It’s not normal for the area. I mean, Croc’s has been there for a long time I’ve lived here since ’92 and I’ve never heard anything like that happening there before," said Green.

Green said that now he's just praying for the man's family.

“I feel very sorry that it happened and very sorry for the family. It’s just sad that something like that had to happen and they had to go before their time. And just before Mother’s Day too." said Green.

This is the second homicide in the past week near the Oceanfront.

Police arrested two people in connection with a fatal shooting at 11th Street and Pacific Avenue on May 2.

Butch Davidson said that the violence has to end at the Oceanfront.

“Things have changed dramatically. See when my wife and I moved in here, there wasn’t any of this shooting in bars and clubs and streets. It’s like every other night now,” said Davidson.

Police said that they are not looking for any other suspects.
