VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — A Virginia Beach hotel is being replaced by a high-rise Hilton chain and its vintage coffee shop will be rebuilt.
The Belvedere Beach Resort has been a mainstay along the resort city's Oceanfront for 46 years. The Virginian-Pilot reports that owners David and Leigh Willis will close the Belvedere in August. A 14-story Home2Suites by Hilton rise in its place.
The cozy Belvedere Coffee Shop is a throwback with its vintage blue booths and counter stools. While it will retain the Belvedere name, it will be expanded and will offer dinner.
The hotel boasts a 1960s motif with driftwood paneling, hallways open to the front of the building and a pool next to the parking lot.
Leigh and David Willis will own the franchise.
