Virginia Beach house fire kills cat and injures 3 people

The Virginia Beach Fire Department was dispatched to the 5400 Block of Memorial Drive around 4:30 a.m. When they arrived smoke and fire were visible from the garage.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A fire in Virginia Beach has injured 3 people and killed their cat. 6 people and 1 child are displaced from their home due to the incident.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department was dispatched to the 5400 Block of Memorial Drive around 4:30 a.m. When they arrived smoke and fire were visible from the garage, which spread quickly to the attic. 

Smoke detectors alerted the family and they were out of the home when firefighters arrived. The fire was marked as completely out a little after 6:00 a.m.

3 patients were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and one had burn injuries. The family's dogs were recovered safely, but a cat is deceased. 

The Red Cross has been contacted to help those displaced.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
