Virginia Beach EMS to send ambulances to Washington County, in need after Helene

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management sent out a Statewide Mutual Aid request to all Virginia localities seeking urgent help.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach EMS is sending two ambulances from Rescue Station 14to western Virginia tonight after Hurricane Helene tore through the region on Friday.

Washington County, one of Virginia's most southwestern counties, sent out a Statewide Mutual Aid request through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management for urgent assistance late Friday afternoon. 

Virginia Beach EMS Chief Jason Stroud immediately agreed to answer the call.

“Our hearts go out to the men and women who are fighting the flooding and damage from Hurricane Helene," he said. "EMS is a big family, and we are glad that we can provide mutual aid assistance to Washington County in their time of need."

The two ambulances will include career medics and a volunteer provider for what they expect to be an extended deployment. In Washington County, VBEMS crews will provide advanced life support and other assistance needed for emergency responses to towns in the area.
